Mahalo!

From hats and bags, fans, to bracelets and headbands, few hand-woven accessories are so subtly stunning as those made of lau hala. In this series, master weaver, Pohaku Kaho‘ohanohano, will teach participants about the history of hala plaiting, preparing leaves for plaiting, and the glossary of Hawaiian words and concepts related to plaiting. Each person will complete a full size moena (a woven mat, usually for the floor in the home) made over the course of the series. This is an eight-class series. Classes are every 1st and 3rd Tuesday, starting 6/7. Class dates are: 6/7, 6/21, 7/5, 7/19, 8/2, 8/16, 9/6, and 9/20. Space is limited to 15 people and participants must be able to attend all classes.
Workshop Series Cost: $360 for current MNBG members, $385 for non-members (includes one-year membership). No single class price.
