Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is Temporarily Closed
Maui Nui Botanical Gardens wishes to extend our warmest aloha to you and your families. We believe in the power of social distancing to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), as evidenced in guidelines put forth by Hawaiʻi Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization.
To this end, we will be closing the Garden to everyone except MNBG staff and contractors until further notice. During the course of a normal day at MNBG, keiki students, kupuna volunteers, and tourist visitors all visit and can form large groups. Although we have stepped up our sanitation practices on restrooms and outdoor furniture, we cannot guarantee that MNBG is safe for all these visitors if we are experiencing community spread.
We hope you will each take this issue seriously and do your part to slow the community transmission of this virus; in the coming weeks, social distancing may reduce pressure on Maui’s health care facilities. We know the community deserves access to outdoor education spaces like MNBG, and we will do everything we can to reopen as soon as feasible. In the meantime, please consider taking time to nurture the native plants near your own homes and continuing to support local businesses and nonprofits that work to protect Maui’s environment.
