Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the protection of Hawaii's Native Hawaiian and Polynesian-introduced plants. Our mission is to foster appreciation and understanding of Maui Nui's plants by providing a gathering place for discovery, education, and conservation. In the State of Hawaii, 2025 is the Year of the Community Forest to celebrate, raise awareness and engage communities around the vital role of our community forests-our trees and green spaces where we can live, learn, and play.

In partnership with Maui Green & Beautiful and Maui Breadfruit Company, we will host our 5th annual free community event, Lā ’Ulu-Breadfruit Day, on Saturday, September 6, 2025 to celebrate the culinary and historical culture of ‘ulu (breadfruit, Artocarpus altilus) in Hawai‘i. The event will feature presentations about ʻulu agroforestry and adapting recipes to using ʻulu; food booths with ‘ulu creations; and a large native plant sale, including ‘ulu trees. Free hands-on Hawaiian crafts using ‘ulu and other Hawaiian plant materials will be on offer, for example ‘ulu bark kapa making, lei making with ‘ulu and other plants, and Makahiki games including ‘ulu maika. Several organizations that research and promote ‘ulu as a crop will be in attendance. https://mnbg.org/la-ulu-breadfruit-festival/

Your sponsorship will help us fund the costs of the event, such as services from Maui Huliau Foundation to coordinate a waste-free event, local entertainment, volunteer food, and advertising costs.
