Native and canoe plant trees and shrubs for Maui landscapes

This list is a project supported by the MALU initiative, a program by Kupu to expand tree canopies around Hawaiʻi and is part of our efforts to promote the cultivation of native and canoe plants and trees in the areas where we live, work, and play. For each plant, you'll find its Hawaiian and botanical name, natural range, growing conditions, and the cultural and ecological role it has played, and continues to play, in Hawaiʻi. Most of these are woody trees and shrubs, but a few herbaceous plants are also included. Join us at our next Arbor Day Garden Expo to learn more and get free trees.
